A disaster of FA Cup proportions – Goes without saying considering the 3-1 scoreline. Joey Barton provided the only goal and a superb goal it was too but it more or less was too little too late for the Mags to rescue the game.

The match over the weekend demonstrated that the overall strength of the team was lacking somewhat and probably underlines the need to bring in additional help from somewhere.

Nolan apologised to travelling support:

“A few of the lads looked a bit leggy in the second half and we weren’t very good.

“All we can do is apologise to the fans who made a massive journey to stick with us for another important game next weekend.

“Some players were trying hard, but you had 11 lads from Stevenage who probably wanted it more than us, and that’s the most disappointing thing.”

Pardew hinted pretty much the same sentiment but he’s in there to fix that problem. Seeing Tiote sent off didn’t help either and there’s not much reprieve for the player either by requesting an appeal. It was a stupid challenge no matter how you look at it.

Easily a forgettable match.

Hopefully they won’t have the same away day blues in February at Fulham as I’ve just booked my ticket for that match!

“Kevin looks after him, and they get on well.”

“He makes sure he has his supper at the right time and makes sure he gets to bed on time!”

Those were the hilarious words from Hughton in a press conference ahead of Wednesday nights FA Cup clash with Arsenal.

Today, Carroll was £1000 lighter in his wallet for a club scuffle which happened last year which left a person with a cut eye. The court found that the wound was actually a result of an accident which was caused when Carroll threw a drink over the man. A lesser verdict was given instead of full GBH.

Hughton also spoke about the victory over West Ham on Saturday:

“I probably couldn’t be more delighted. We went behind early on, and it looked like it was going to be a tough evening.

“They’re a very strong side. The three up front for West Ham have a lot of pace and power.

“They caused us problems early on, and the best thing was the character we showed after conceding.”

Joey Barton has also been getting some praise for the expert ball delivery skills he had shown over the course of the match.

We await with some anticipation over how Hughton can organise his team against the Gunners on Wednesday. Sol Campbell will not be fit to play against his former club unfortunately.

The Keegan revolution goes forth to the Emirates where Newcastle take on Arsenal on Saturday. The last time we played against Arsenal, Allardyce managed to lift the team to a draw in what was seen then as a turning point in Big Sam’s troubled reign. Also, worth mentioning that Arsenal also dumped us out of the Carling Cup with Wenger’s famous ‘reserves’ selection earlier in the season. We should expect a similar team selection from Arsenal as we play them again next week for a league game.

Arsenal, as we all know, spectacularly imploded on the pitch against their North London rivals, Tottenham mid week. They were well and truly thumped with 5 goals and the game sparked in-team fighting between Gallas and Bendtner. Our hope for us would be that this is not just a flash point for Arsenal but a true dip in form. Obviously, Arsenal is still a team full of talent such as Adebayor, who is doing well to fill the shoes of their last most prolific striker, Henry. With other goal scorers like Fabregas, Walcott and Hleb, Keegan will no doubt be thinking on how to outsmart such players today.

Although no team news from Newcastle, there are rumblings that Barton will feature some how. I’m not sure if that’s in violation of his release terms but we’ll need him as fans have been disappointed with the lack of transfer confirmations this week. I know I am. Viduka should be back from injury also.

Other then that, a big, tough game for the weekend. Keegan won’t be expected to perform miracles and needs time to dabble in the transfer window and get the team playing well again. I’m disappointed that Jonathan Woodgate’s name has been linked to Newcastle again. He’s not worth bringing back. As for the match, Keegan will have a rough time but a good result will be the true beginning of his second stint at managing Newcastle.
