A disaster of FA Cup proportions – Goes without saying considering the 3-1 scoreline. Joey Barton provided the only goal and a superb goal it was too but it more or less was too little too late for the Mags to rescue the game.

The match over the weekend demonstrated that the overall strength of the team was lacking somewhat and probably underlines the need to bring in additional help from somewhere.

Nolan apologised to travelling support:

“A few of the lads looked a bit leggy in the second half and we weren’t very good.

“All we can do is apologise to the fans who made a massive journey to stick with us for another important game next weekend.

“Some players were trying hard, but you had 11 lads from Stevenage who probably wanted it more than us, and that’s the most disappointing thing.”

Pardew hinted pretty much the same sentiment but he’s in there to fix that problem. Seeing Tiote sent off didn’t help either and there’s not much reprieve for the player either by requesting an appeal. It was a stupid challenge no matter how you look at it.

Easily a forgettable match.

Hopefully they won’t have the same away day blues in February at Fulham as I’ve just booked my ticket for that match!

“Kevin looks after him, and they get on well.”

“He makes sure he has his supper at the right time and makes sure he gets to bed on time!”

Those were the hilarious words from Hughton in a press conference ahead of Wednesday nights FA Cup clash with Arsenal.

Today, Carroll was £1000 lighter in his wallet for a club scuffle which happened last year which left a person with a cut eye. The court found that the wound was actually a result of an accident which was caused when Carroll threw a drink over the man. A lesser verdict was given instead of full GBH.

Hughton also spoke about the victory over West Ham on Saturday:

“I probably couldn’t be more delighted. We went behind early on, and it looked like it was going to be a tough evening.

“They’re a very strong side. The three up front for West Ham have a lot of pace and power.

“They caused us problems early on, and the best thing was the character we showed after conceding.”

Joey Barton has also been getting some praise for the expert ball delivery skills he had shown over the course of the match.

We await with some anticipation over how Hughton can organise his team against the Gunners on Wednesday. Sol Campbell will not be fit to play against his former club unfortunately.

Roll Up! Roll Up! Watch fat Sam the clown and his 11 court jesters make spectacles of themselves! See Fat Sam walk the tight rope! Guaranteed last performance of Fat Sam! Those ridiculous newspapers were wheeling out career obituaries already for Allardyce heightening anticipation of yet another giant killing match from Stoke; only this time the press some how seem to have seen this one coming a mile off. This lead to Stoke players queuing up to tell the media that they fancy their chances to take the match. They certainly came close and if it wasn’t for some quick thinking defending, they could have easily scored two or three.

Newcastle were weak even with with Owen and Viduka awaiting upfront. Our players seemed to lack conviction and were almost happy to allow Stoke the run of play even to the point of backing off from incoming Stoke players. Owen lacked the touch on all the chances that were exposed to him. He tried to chip the keeper or reach a low level cross in the penalty box, he just looked far from the player who could put those away in his sleep.

The team did enough to not lose the game. Stoke now need to travel to St James’ for the replay where the situation will be no different. Stoke will still fancy their chances.
