Newcastle United Win Ugly Against Resolute Palace
By Dave NU Blogger | January 28, 2010
It’s become a little bit of a running theme in our campaign so far but the Mags pulled clear three points last night by beating troubled club, Crystal Palace 2-0. Only 24 hours after Palace went in to administration and consequentially docked ten points, our opponents still managed to knock out a performance that occasionally made us look the lessar side. It was probably typical that Warnock would be able to fire up his players pre-match in a way that Hughton could not but their players certainly didn’t look pre-occupied with their administration predicament.
Our team line up comprised of some new players with Williamson slotting into our back four and Routledge ending up as a sub for Lovenkrands. The first of the night’s goals was actually an own goal when Shaun Derry turned the ball into his own net from an Andy Carroll cross. Unlucky. The second goal was scored in stoppage time with a goal from Nile Ranger.
Throughout the match, Harper’s skills were frequently called upon as the visitors unleashed a few shots on target. Alas, Crystal Palace played a spirited game but it is Newcastle United that remains top of the league whilst Palace unfortunately drop into the relegation zone.
