« Barton Seals Points For Newcastle Against Fulham | Home | Disappointing But Newcastle Takes a Draw »
Derby Encounter Cometh
By Dave NU Blogger | December 23, 2007
The Rams travel to St James’ Park looking to reverse their bad form but they will be up against a newly revived Newcastle side. Allardyce would hopefully dish out some pre-Christmas cheer to the fans by grabbing three points from another potentially winnable match.
Injury news on the Newcastle front looks to be improving. Capaca would retain his place despite Taylor looking a certain for recovery. Owen has yet to make a start and has reportedly delayed any return for about a week. Sounds good as the African Nations Cup is about to hit and we don’t necessarily want an unfit Owen playing in the gruelling festive period of matches, especially when Martins and co look fully capable of keeping the goals coming.
But at the end of the day we are talking about Newcastle here, who had let three points slip at Pride Park with a below-par away performance. Some say it was the start of our rocky ride of late. Recently appointed Derby manager, Paul Jewell, still has the capability he showed at Wigan to turn matches to his favour. Allardyce should be kept on his toes but an early goal from us should destroy any lingering doubts in our squad and seal the win.
